Create for Crisis: Untangled

2022

In collaboration with UK homelessness charity Crisis, two jumpers previously destined for landfill were restored, dyed, and embroidered into wearable art pieces.

This work was heavily informed by my own experiences of loss and unwantedness. Both my childhood cat Sophie, who sadly passed away in the summer of 2022, and a stray cat Shelia, who I found wandering near my South London flat were both discarded at different points in their lives. Both were found by me and provided with the shelter, care, and safety making them the perfect muses for a project about revitalising discarded clothing.

The entire process was documented on video making these techniques both transparent and accessible to encourage others to try the process for themselves and consider second hand materials as blank canvases.
