Knitscapes

Knitscapes, was a collaborative digital project between London based knitwear designer and artist Cat Brierley and Amsterdam based multimedia artist Niki Sophia. The artists, physically separated by hundreds of miles, built virtual landscapes via the medium of digital collage; creating a virtual space they could both inhabit remotely.

Through both analogue and digital manipulation Cat's knits are reimagined and recontextualised, taking the essence of a functional knitted garment and abstracting it's properties to evoke surrealist landscapes. The images were constructed through the act of play; passing back and forth compositions via WeTransfer and Zoom, experimenting with remote photography, being curious about colour, and developing a deep understanding about each other’s artistic process’.
